A technique developed by Mr. Gion for select orbital exenteration cases utilizes a special low durometer medical silicone and paired magnets to achieve a safe secure fit and durable adhesive free retention. This soft 2-piece magnetic prosthesis is anatomically retained. A case series was presented to the American Anaplastology Association in 1997.

When the obturator (dental) prosthesis is accessible from the orbital exenteration cavity, paired magnets may again be used to magnetically retain the orbital prostheses eliminating the need for adhesive. This larger type orbital prosthesis is designed extra thin, lightweight and flexible to comply with tissue mobility.
