Concrete worker lost 2 of his fingers in a work accident. With the help of Greg Gion and Medical Art Prosthetics, he is now able to maintain function in his hand.

This patient was given the gift of playing guitar again. What a beautiful testimony to the power of the work we get to do each and everyday.

This video demonstrates the user’s very first experience putting on and trying out his new MCP Driver manufactured by Naked Prosthetics custom fit. The high-tech device featuring articulating fingers was provided by certified prosthetist Gregory Gion, CCA, BOCP. Our patient has already put his prosthesis through its paces in his work in construction and will return for final adjustments soon.

This patient came to us after wearing a vinyl prosthesis (left) that was produced by a traditional “Central Fabrication†approach. We then were able to provide a much softer and more flexible yet durable silicone prosthesis (right) using our Direct Practitioner philosophy.

“Central Fabrication†vs. Direct Practitioner explained:

Central Fabrication is when a provider takes some photographs, measurements and a mold of your hand and sends the information off to a company that fabricates your prosthesis on an assembly line according to the reference photos, measurements and models. Evaluation of this patient’s hand by our prosthetist revealed excellent prehension (grasping ability) which was immediately frozen when donning her rigid vinyl prosthesis because it’s flawed design bunched her residual thumb and index finger tightly together. Our new passive functioning silicone prosthesis liberated the movement of her thumb and index fingers thereby restoring crucial functionality of her hand. The accurate coloration of her aesthetic prosthesis and optimal balancing of selected silicones for maximum hand function was only possible through direct evaluation of the patient and fabrication occurring in the same facility.
